“Many are going directly contrary to the light which God has given to his people, because they do not read the books which contain the light and knowledge in cautions, reproofs, and warnings…” (4T 391.1)

“…It is of the highest importance that among the studies selected for childhood, physiology should occupy the first place…” (CH 38.1)
REGARDING ‘FIRST BOOK IN PHYSIOLOGY & HYGIENE’ BY J.H. KELLOGG:
“We have just received from the publishers, Harper & Brothers, New York, a copy of “THE FIRST BOOK IN PHYSIOLOGY AND HYGIENE,” by J. H. Kellogg, M.D., who is at the head of the Medical Sanitarium at Battle Creek, Mich. The book is designed as a primary text-book on physiology, for children from six to twelve years of age. It contains twenty-six lessons, with a summary at the close of each lesson, and questions for review at the close of the book. The wide experience of the author as a physician, and his skill as a teacher, have enabled him to get up a book that is thoroughly scientific, and at the same time adapted to the comprehension of children. Moreover, the book is eminently practical. With this book in hand as a guide, we cannot see how any teacher who has a fair knowledge of physiology can fail to make the subject interesting. Of course it is expected that the teacher will have charts and models, and will add many illustrations to that given in the book; but, even if this is lacking, we think that the book is better able to teach itself than any other book we have ever seen, and better, in fact, than many persons to presume to teach physiology and hygiene. We hope to see this book generally adopted in the public schools, and whether or not, parents would do well to procure it for their children to study at home.” {March 9, 1888 EJW, SITI 160.14}
- I highly recommend this book for all, including adults. Even though it says it's for 6 to 12 yr. old to read, our 6 to 12-year olds of today probably would have a difficult time understanding quite a bit of the contents. (Please read both quotes at the end of this book)
- I highly recommend this book. It brings out points I never even thought of such as running very quickly or any violent exercise fills the lungs up with blood very quickly and due to it happening so fast, a blood vessel can break and a person can literally drop dead just like that. This is just one tidbit this book offers.
Note: Running over time also produces what is known as a RUNNER'S HEART. (aka an ENLARGED HEART)

REGARDING THE ‘HYGIENIC FAMILY PHYSICIAN’ BY DR. M.G. KELLOGG:
“This is the title of a work recently published at this office. As the title suggests, it is a work especially designed for family use. The style in which it is written is such as to render it perfectly intelligible to all classes, as it is quite free from technical terms and phrases which are of such frequent occurrence in nearly all books of this kind which have previously appeared as to render them more or less objectionable. It is, nevertheless, “a complete guide for the preservation of health and the treatment of disease without the use of medicine.” {1868 JNL, HBH 1A.1}
The work is written in four parts. The subjects treated are, in Part I., Health and Hygienic Agents; Part II., Disease and Drugs; Part III., the Bath; Part IV., Diseases And Their Treatment…this work is of a thoroughly practical nature, and should be in the hands of every family in the land, as it affords instruction of the most vital importance. Directions for the treatment of disease are so plain and minute that any person of ordinary intelligence with its assistance may successfully treat nine-tenths of all the cases of disease which occur in any neighborhood. The publishers have placed the price so low that the book may be obtained by any one who feels at all in need of such a work.” {1868 JNL, HBH 1a.2}
Note: This is the same Dr. that witnessed Ellen White having no breath when in vision. See John Loughborough’s book titled ‘Great Second Advent Movement’ page 205.2 to read about this.
Note: There are a few things in this book that I don’t agree with like Cancer really can’t be cured (we know it can according to the prophet) and he doesn’t use any herbs, so if you know an herb works for that condition, you may use it as the prophet says we may use herbs and roots. Other than that, this book is wonderful!!! And the water treatments are so simple

REGARDING 'HANDBOOK OF HEALTH, OR A BRIEF TREATISE ON PHYSIOLOGY AND HYGIENE’
BY: J.N. LOUGHBOROUGH:
“At the 1866 General Conference session, strong resolutions favoring reform and calling for the establishing of a health institution were adopted. Shortly thereafter the Western Health Reform Institute was opened in Battle Creek, and steps were taken to produce a practical medical book that would instruct and guide along the lines of health principles. [The physicians at the institute assigned this task to J. N. Loughborough, who had led out in the establishment of the institution. The manuscript, prepared in counsel with the institute physicians, was more than a year in preparation and yielded a 205-page book, compiled largely from standard medical works. Titled Handbook of Health; or a brief treatise on Physiology and Hygiene, It was published in early 1868.] At the next General Conference session, 1867, several resolutions were adopted urging the acceptance of health reform as a part of the work of preparing for the judgment. Other resolutions called for simplicity in dress, and recommended the “reformed dress.” One called for support of the Health Institute, “that this may be enlarged to meet the wants of its patients.” The institute was asked to issue a book “on the structure, functions, and care of the human system.” Loughborough was already working on the manuscript for this.” {2BIO 176.3 }
“Since most medical works are large and expensive, it was decided that a small book should be prepared, compiled from the larger works, containing those things essential to aid the common reader in line with the testimony given us. The director of the Health Reform Institute requested me to prepare the manuscript with the understanding that he would carefully examine and criticize it.” {1987 JNL, MML 67.1}
In between state conferences and various board meetings, it took one year to complete it. It was entitled Home Handbook of Health...” {1987 JNL, MML 67.2}

HERE'S ANOTHER BOOKS OF KELLOGG'S SISTER WHITE SAID WE SHOULD READ:
WE ARE TO READ THE HOME HAND BOOK by: Dr. Kellogg
“I have been forced to inquire why several of our canvassers in this field, who were canvassing for the Home Hand Book, have left the field having only paid their expenses. Some did not even do this. They stated that when the time came for them to deliver their books, they could not obtain copies to deliver. They were themselves greatly disappointed, and the people who were expecting the book were also disappointed. What shall we do about this? I have talked to the men in the Echo Office about it, and they say that they cannot obtain copies of The Home Hand Book.” {KC 89.4}
At every camp meeting, we make special efforts to get before the people the light upon health reform, as contained in your publications. But while you have been consuming you have not been producing. Never was there a time when a greater interest was shown in regard to questions relating to health. What is it that hinders your books from being supplied to our offices, to be furnished to the canvassers? Shall this delay continue? Shall the people still be disappointed?

HERE'S A QUOTE FROM THE GENERAL CONFERENCE DAILY BULLETIN ABOUT THIS BOOK
“Our canvassers in Sweden do not confine themselves to one book, as you do here; but they take most of the books we have with them. It is much easier to canvass as you do in this country. Here the canvasser takes only one book. But in Sweden they all take a large satchel full of books.
They will perhaps have some copies of the “Household Manual,” some of the “Life of Christ,” some of “Thoughts,” some of the “Prophecies of Jesus,” and a bundle of tracts and pamphlets.” {March 12, 1891 N/A, GCDB 83.15}
