Health Benefits of Frozen Lemons

Many professionals in restaurants and eateries are using or consuming the entire lemon and nothing is wasted. How can you use the whole lemon without waste?

Simple... wash the lemon outside with soap and water and then place it in the freezer section of your refrigerator. Once the lemon is frozen, get your grater, and shred the whole lemon (no need to peel it) and sprinkle it on top of your foods.

Sprinkle it to your vegetable salad, ice cream, soup, noodles, spaghetti sauce, and rice. All of the foods will unexpectedly have a wonderful taste, something that you may have never tasted before. Most likely, you only think of lemon juice and vitamin C. Not anymore.

What's the major advantage of using the whole lemon other than preventing waste and adding new taste to your dishes? Well, you see lemon peels contain as much as 5 to 10 times more vitamins than the lemon juice itself. And yes, that's what you've been wasting. But from now on, by following this simple procedure of freezing the whole lemon, then grating it on top of your dishes, you can consume all of those nutrients and get even healthier.

It's also good that lemon peels are health rejuvenators in eradicating toxic elements in the body. So place your lemon in your freezer, and then grate it on your meal every day. It is a key to make your foods tastier and you get to live healthier and longer! That's the lemon secret!

Better late than NEVER! The surprising benefits of lemon!

Lemon (Citrus) is a miraculous product to kill cancer cells. It is 10,000 times stronger than chemotherapy.

Why do we not know about that? Because there are laboratories interested in making a synthetic version that will bring them huge profits. You can now help a friend in need by letting him/her know that lemon juice is beneficial in preventing the disease. Its taste is pleasant and it does not produce the horrific effects of chemotherapy. How many people will die while this closely guarded secret is kept, so as not to jeopardize the beneficial multimillionaires large corporations? As you know, the lemon tree is known for its varieties of lemons and limes. You can eat the fruit in different ways: you can eat the pulp, juice press, prepare drinks, sorbets, pastries, etc. It is credited with many virtues, but the most interesting is the effect it produces on cysts and tumors. This plant is a proven remedy against cancers of all types. Some say it is very useful in all variants of cancer. It is considered also as an anti microbial spectrum against bacterial infections and fungi, effective against internal parasites and worms, it regulates blood pressure which is too high, and an antidepressant, combats stress and nervous disorders.

The source of this information is fascinating: it comes from one of the largest drug manufacturers in the world, says that after more than 20 laboratory tests since 1970, the extracts revealed that it destroys the malignant cells in 12 cancers, including colon, breast, prostate, lung, and pancreas. The compounds of this tree showed 10,000 times better than the product Adriamycin, a drug normally used chemotherapeutic in the world, slowing the growth of cancer cells. And what is even more astonishing: this type of therapy with lemon extract only destroys malignant cancer cells and it does not affect healthy cells.

Purple Cauliflower

Purple cauliflower is similar to white cauliflower in appearance, but the name gives away its main difference. The vibrant purple color not only adds beauty but nutrition as well. The purple hue is a result of flavonoids and vitamins.

Purple cauliflower is a low calorie vegetable containing only 25 calories for 100 g. For the 100 g serving, purple cauliflower offers 0 g of fat, 5 g of carbohydrates, 2 g of fiber, 2 g of sugar and 2 g of protein. In addition, this same 100 g will satisfy 100 percent of your daily needs for vitamin C.

Although white cauliflower is in the same family as cabbage, the purple cauliflower is actually in the same family as broccoli, the brassica family. The purple cauliflower grows outward and produces bunches of florets, like broccoli. These plants need rich soil, lots of moisture and moderate temperatures.

The purple hue of this vegetable is due to anthocyanins. Anthocyanins are antioxidant flavonoids that belong to the group of phenolic antioxidants. Anthocyanins are also found in red cabbage, red wine and blueberries. This flavonoid holds potential health benefits, including the ability to help stabilize capillary walls. Weak capillary walls allow toxic substances to permeate into cells, which can be detrimental to the entire body.

Purple cauliflower contains important vitamins and minerals for overall health. In 100 g of purple cauliflower, you receive over 100 percent of the recommended daily values, or DV, of vitamin C. In addition, you get 25 percent DV of vitamin K, 14 percent DV of folate and 11 percent DV of vitamin B6. Purple cauliflower also offers 12 percent DV of manganese and 9 percent DV of potassium.

I love the color and the taste is very similar to cauliflower. Purple cauliflower makes a beautiful salad and a great conversation piece for all of your meat and potato friends who complain that a Vegan diet is boring.....

Also - please do not comment that the purple color is genetically modified.....Purple cauliflower is actually a member of the broccoli family - Fruits, vegetables, beans and grains all come in many different colors "naturally" - just because you haven't seen it doesn't mean it doesn't exist -

Bronchitis

When you're feeling as sick as a dog...

The lungs consist of four types of tissue: connective tissue, blood vessels, air sacs, and tubes called bronchi. When these become inflamed or diseased, the condition is called bronchitis.

Acute bronchitis is always associated with a cough, and often with wheezing and fever. However, chronic bronchitis usually produces a chronic cough with no fever (although there may be a slight evening temperature elevation, with or without night sweats).

Most upper respiratory tract infections, including colds, have a phase of acute bronchitis beginning a day or two after the onset of cough, followed by wheezing and coughing when a deep breath is taken.

WARM TREATMENTS
Most people do not appreciate the degree of warmth their extremities require to be entirely healthy. Any reduction in the body's ability to circulate blood perfectly into the skin of the extremities increases one's susceptibility to viral diseases. Even a short, barefooted walk across the floor may prolong a cough another day.

Treatment is quite simple. First, keep the extremities warm. The skin contains white blood cells that remove substances from the blood while imparting protective proteins that act as antibodies to enhance the immune mechanism. A hot footbath increases the circulation of these cells, making them more active in fighting infections. It can also quiet the coughing, redistribute the circulation to the extremities, and produce relaxation.

A hot half bath (with water up to the navel) will produce similar results. Children with a cough should be treated with a hot half bath lasting for three minutes, adding one minute for each additional year beyond the age of three. Water temperatures should range from 104 -110º, even up to 112º - a temperature that normal adults can easily tolerate for 15-20 minutes.

A heating compress to the chest each night is also very helpful. Place a thin, wet cotton piece of fabric (squeezed from cold water) against the skin, and cover it well on all sides with a piece of plastic cut from a bread bag or similar material. Secure the compress in place with a long strip of bed sheet, a snug-fitting sweatshirt, or a vest. The compress should be worn all night.

COUGH TREATMENTS
Coughs should be treated by drinking water freely. I tell my patients that every time they cough they should drink a small glass of water. Drink another glass if they cough in the next five minutes, and so forth. This eventually loosens the secretions enough to be expectorated freely, and lubricates the bronchial surfaces, reducing the tickling.

Catnip tea can also quiet a cough, but one should avoid cough syrups containing codeine, since they suppress the cough reflex, leading to the retention of secretions in the lungs. Because of their negative effects on the body's defense and immune mechanisms, one should avoid using heavy, rich, and hard-to-digest food items, including margarine, mayonnaise, fried foods, cooking oil, meat, milk, eggs, and cheese. Two meals daily are preferable, or else three small meals.

Multiple layers of clothing should be used on the extremities and over the chest, but not so heavy or thick as to promote sweating, since this tends to cause chilling.

A vaporizer or humidifier can also be helpful in keeping the secretions thin and avoid the drying and irritation of sensitive mucous membranes.

And, finally, exposure to sunlight and moderate outdoor exercise are most useful for both acute and chronic bronchitis.

Flu Shots More Dangerous Than The Flu

The verdict is out on flu shots. Many medical experts now agree it is more important to protect yourself and your family from the flu vaccine than the flu itself. Let’s take a look at the reasons behind this verdict:

1.) There is a total lack of real evidence that young children even benefit from flu shots. A systematic review of 51 studies involving 260,000 children age 6 to 23 months found no evidence that the flu vaccine is any more effective than a placebo. Also the shots are only able to protect against certain strains of the virus, which means that if you come into contact with a different strain of virus you will still get the flu.

2.) Medical journals have published thousands of articles revealing that injecting vaccines can actually lead to serious health problems including harmful immunological responses and a host of other infections. This further increases the body’s susceptibility to the diseases that the vaccine was supposed to protect against.

3.) Ever noticed how vaccinated children within days or few weeks develop runny noses, pneumonia, ear infections and bronchiolitis? The reason is the flu virus introduced in their bodies which creates these symptoms. It also indicates immuno-suppression i.e. lowering of the immunity. The flu vaccines actually do not immunize but sensitize the body against the virus.

4.) Its a known fact that Flu vaccines contain strains of the flu virus along with other ingredients. Now think about the impact such a vaccine can have over someone with a suppressed immune system? If you have a disease that is already lowering your body’s ability to fight a virus, taking the flu shot will put your body in danger of getting the full effects of the flu and make you more susceptible to pneumonia and other contagious diseases.

5.) The Flu vaccines contain mercury, a heavy metal known to be hazardous for human health. The amount of mercury contained in a multi-dose flu shot is much higher than the maximum allowable daily exposure limit. Mercury toxicity can cause memory loss, depression, ADD, oral health problems, digestive imbalances, respiratory problems, cardiovascular diseases and many more such serious health ailments.

And what about the elderly? Can the flu vaccine help them?

6.) There is mounting evidence that flu shots can cause Alzheimer’s disease.  One report shows that people who received the flu vaccine each year for 3 to 5 years had a 10-fold greater chance of developing Alzheimer’s disease than people who did not have any flu shots.  Also with age the immune system weakens, thus lowering your ability to fight off infections. Introducing the flu virus in the bodies of elderly could have dangerous consequences.

Can we trust the authorities who are promoting the wide-spread use of flu vaccines?

7.) The Center for Disease Control appoints a 15-member Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP).  This committee is responsible for deciding who should be vaccinated each year.  Almost all the ACIP have a financial interest in immunizations. It's all about the money and may have very little to do with your health and well being.  The very people pushing these vaccines stand to make billions of dollars.  This itself creates a doubt on how effective these flu vaccines really are?

8.) Research shows that over-use of the flu-vaccine and drugs like Tamiflu and Relenza can actually alter flu viruses and cause them to mutate into a more deadly strain. Couple this with drug resistant strains and you have virtually no benefits with much risk.

9.) There is enough evidence that shows that the ingredients present in the flu vaccinations can actually cause serious neurological disorders. In the 1976 swine flu outbreak, many who got the flu shots developed permanent nerve damage. Flu vaccines can contain many harmful materials including detergent, mercury, formaldehyde, and strains of live flu virus. Is this what you want to put in YOUR body?

10.) Trying to guess what strain to vaccinate against each season has proved to be no more effective than a guessing game. This has been very true in recent years with the H1N1 strain. Moreover getting multi-shots will only prove more dangerous as different strains of viruses and harmful ingredients are introduced into your body.

Garlic and Cancer

One vegetable in particular---garlic---contains substances that are especially powerful weapons against cancer, says the American Institute for Cancer Research.

Cell culture studies have shown that garlic can help cancer cells die off, reports the American Cancer Society. The National Cancer Institute also says that garlic can induce the deaths of cancer cells and that garlic can reduce the rate at which cancer cells proliferate, thereby slowing the progression of cancer in the body. In laboratory studies, garlic has killed leukemia cells, and in animal studies, garlic has killed cancer cells in the lungs, breasts, stomach, esophagus, and colon, according to the American Institute for Cancer Research.

Dr Sujatha Sundaram, a researcher at Pennsylvania State University, found that it caused human bowel cancer tumour cells to shrink and die when transplanted into mice.

Dr Sundaram was also responsible for finding another compound found in garlic that slowed the growth of breast cancer in rats.

Suggestion: Use raw garlic in your salads.

Raw Garlic: It is very well known that garlic contains all the elements except Vitamin D. It is also known that garlic essence warms the body and promotes better circulation of the blood .... Aillin, an oily substance contained in garlic, diluted as much as 200 times can kill typhoid germs. Its indeed Natural antibiotic!

Garlic Poultice

One of the Amazing natural remedy when someone in family is sick is garlic! Garlic is known to have strong antibacterial, antiviral, and anti-fungal properties… and there are no known side effects (other than smelling like garlic!) A great garlic remedy to use in your household is a garlic poultice. It’s super easy to make and very effective! It can be used on everyone (babies and adults) and it has helped to reduce fevers and to get rid of coughs & congestion.

Here’s how to make one:

First, get a few paper towels or a cheesecloth and lay it on the counter.

Second, crush or mince a few cloves of garlic into the middle of the paper towel or cheesecloth.

Third, fold the paper towel or cheesecloth to cover the garlic area. I staple mine so that it won’t fall out, but you don’t have to do that.

Fourth, get the paper towel or cheesecloth wet with hot water (but NOT boiling).

Lastly, put the wet garlic poultice on whatever area is bothering you. For example, if you have a cough/congestion then you would put it on your chest. You can also put it on the bottoms of your feet if the smell bothers you. Just make sure you don’t leave it on too long (more than around 90 seconds) because garlic can eventually cause burns. To Avoid burning Add some Olive oil or castor oil.

Magnesium, Not Calcium, is the Key to Healthy Bones

The belief that calcium is the holy grail of what builds strong bones is absolutely ingrained in our society, but has no basis in reality--calcium is but ONE of the many minerals your body needs for building strong bones. Dietary intake of magnesium, not necessarily calcium, may be the key to developing healthy bones during childhood, according to new research presented at the Pediatric Academic Societies (PAS) annual meeting in the USA.

Take a Second Peek At Calcium Claims

The mainstream engine has been promoting the use of calcium to prevent weak bones for decades. Age-old myths that calcium supplementation builds strong bones and teeth are reinforced in almost institution. But how effective is calcium supplementation?

A 2004 study showed that people with excess calcium in their coronary artery and who take statins have a 17-fold higher risk of heart attacks than do those with lower arterial calcium levels; researchers concluded that the two most definitive indicators of heart attack were LDL levels and calcium build-up.

A 2007 study showed that calcium from dietary sources has more favorable effects on bone health than calcium from supplements in postmenopausal women (Am J Clin Nutr 2007).

A 2008 study found calcium supplements are associated with a greater number of heart attacks in postmenopausal women (BMJ 2008)

A 2010 meta-analysis showed calcium supplements (without coadministered vitamin D) are associated with increased risk for heart attack (BMJ 2010)

According to the National Osteoporosis Foundation (NOF), food will always be the best source of calcium: "People who get the recommended amount of calcium from foods do not need to take a calcium supplement. These individuals still may need to take a vitamin D supplement. Getting too much calcium from supplements may increase the risk of kidney stones and other health problems."

"Calcium supplements have been widely embraced by doctors and the public, on the grounds that they are a natural and therefore safe way of preventing osteoporotic fractures," said the researchers, led by Professor Sabine Rohrmann, from Zurich University's institute of social and preventative medicine."It is now becoming clear that taking this micronutrient in one or two daily [doses] is not natural, in that it does not reproduce the same metabolic effects as calcium in food," they added. Most supplements on the supplement market today contain calcium carbonate which is an inferior form of calcium and manufacturers attach a simple chelating agent like citric acid to make it more absorbable, however the end product is inferior to other calcium supplements such as calcium orotate, which is the only known form of calcium which can effectively penetrate the membranes of cells.

Another fact most people are unaware of is the myth promoted by the dairy industry that consuming pasteurized dairy products such as milk or cheese increases calcium levels. This is totally false. The pasteurization process only creates calcium carbonate, which has absolutely no way of entering the cells without a chelating agent. So what the body does is pull the calcium from the bones and other tissues in order to buffer the calcium carbonate in the blood. This process ACTUALLY CAUSES OSTEOPOROSIS. Milk definitively does not do a body good if it's pasteurized.

Magnesium and Increasing Awareness

The new data from Professor Steven Abrams and his colleagues at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston finds that intake and absorption of magnesium during childhood are key predictors of total bone mineral content and bone density - while dietary calcium intake was not significantly associated with such measures. "Dietary magnesium intake may be an important, relatively unrecognized, factor in bone mineral accretion in children," the researchers revealed. "Lots of nutrients are key for children to have healthy bones. One of these appears to be magnesium," said Abrams. "Calcium is important, but, except for those children and adolescents with very low intakes, may not be more important than magnesium."

The researchers noted that parents have been long advised to ensure their child has a good intake of calcium in order to help build strong and healthy bones. However, the importance of other minerals essential for bone health, such as magnesium, have not been so well promoted. Abrams and his team suggested that it may soon be the case that parents are urged to ensure their children also consume enough magnesium.

Greater magnesium intake is significantly related to higher bone mineral density (BMD) in men and women. There is an approximate 2 percent increase in whole-body BMD for every 100 milligram per day increase in magnesium.

Osteoporotic fractures are a significant health problem in aging adults, Dr. Kathryn M. Ryder, of the University of Tennessee, Memphis, and colleagues note in their report. Given the high prevalence of low BMD and fracture, small improvements in BMD may have a large public health effect.

Magnesium is a "lesser-studied" component of bone that may play a role in calcium metabolism and bone strength, they add.

Supplementing With Magnesium

For the majority of human history, the ratio of calcium to magnesium in the diet was 1:1, a ratio that's considered optimal. A ratio that's between 1:1 and 2:1 is adequate (for example, 800 mg of calcium to 400 mg of magnesium). Unfortunately, today's diets contain an average of 10 times more calcium than magnesium. Magnesium comes in many forms. Magnesium oxide or chloride is fine, as is chelated magnesium. Capsules usually contain 250-500 mg of magnesium. You can also use a calcium/magnesium supplement. Experiment with levels. The Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA) for magnesium is 350-400 mg per day, although for optimal levels, you may need as much as twice that amount.

It's best to take your magnesium in divided doses throughout the day. You can take it either on an empty stomach or with meals. You can also add Epsom salts to your baths--Epsom salt is magnesium sulfate. It's absorbed through the skin and will help replenish magnesium stores. This "treatment" can easily include a relaxing bath with a good book.

Only one percent of the body's magnesium is in the blood, and the body will take it from bones and tissues if that level drops. That means that a blood test could easily show a normal reading, even when the rest of the body is very deficient.

The best sources of magnesium will always be food. Dietary sources of magnesium include green leafy vegetables. Cacao, seeds, and nuts of any kind are among the highest food sources in magnesium.

Avocado

I just love avocados; they are one of my favorite fruits. My favorite way to eat on is to smash it on toast and put salt on top.
Here is some good info on avocados.
1. Prevents Prostate, Breast and Oral Cancers - Researches have shown that avocado helps in preventing the development of breast cancer thanks to its oilic acid content. Moreover, owing to the presence of certain compounds, avocado fruit has found to be very effective in seeking out pre-cancerous and cancerous oral-cancer cells and obliterate them without doing any harm to the healthier ones. In addition, it is also known for inhibiting the growth of prostate cancer.

2.
Eye Health - Eye health is another health benefit, avocado offers. It contains more of carotenoid lutein as compared to any commonly consumed fruit. Lutein prevents any eye-related disorders by offering protection against macular degeneration and cataracts.

3.
Regulates blood cholesterol level - Avocado helps in regulating blood cholesterol level because of its high beta sitosterol content. It is shown to reduce cholesterol as well as phospholipid levels to almost 20% if consumed on a daily basis.

4.
Heart Health - Avocados are extremely helpful when it comes to maintaining a hale and hearty heart. They are rich in folate – an ingredient essential for a healthy, problem free heart. One cup is enough to satisfy your body’s 23% of the daily folate requirement alone. Additionally, monounsaturated fats, glutathione, and vitamin E in the avocado are also very beneficial for human heart.

5.
Better Nutrient Absorption - Avocados are found to be very effective in boosting the absorption of certain nutrients plus they also improve human digestive system. Likewise, it also helps preventing constipation and facilitates immediate weight lose.

6.
Glutathione Source - Avocados are a rich source of glutathione, an antioxidant important in preventing aging, cancers, and heart disorders. Furthermore, the abundance of vitamin E makes it an amazing ingredient to keep numerous health issues bay.

7.
Beauty benefits of avocado fruit - Avocado is an excellent natural way to nourish and stock up your body without any abrasive chemicals. Essential and extra virgin avocado oil has long been used in beauty products such as hair conditioners, moisturizers, cleanses and facials etc. This is all because they are a rich source of several essential nutrients that relive and moisturize your skin.

8.
Clean Skin - Avocados are filled with vitamin A which helps purging off any dead skin cells. The glutamine amino acid present in avocados cleanses your skin and offers it enough protection against harsh environmental factors.

CHILDREN'S VITAMINS CONTAIN ASPARTAME, GMO's, & OTHER HAZARDOUS CHEMICALS

The #1 Children's Vitamin Brand in the US contains ingredients that most parents would never intentionally expose their children to, so why aren't more opting for healthier alternatives?

Kid's vitamins are supposed to be healthy, right? Well then, what's going on with Flintstones Vitamins, which proudly claims to be "Pediatricians' #1 Choice"? Produced by the global pharmaceutical corporation Bayer, this wildly success brand features a shocking list of unhealthy ingredients, including:

Aspartame
Cupric Oxide
Coal Tar Artificial Coloring Agents (FD&C Blue #2, Red #40, Yellow #6)
Zinc Oxide
Sorbitol
Ferrous Fumarate
Hydrogenated Oil (Soybean)
GMO Corn Starch

On Bayer Health Science's Flintstones product page designed for healthcare professionals they lead into the product description with the following tidbit of information:

82% of kids aren't eating all of their veggies1. Without enough vegetables, kids may not be getting all of the nutrients they need.

References: 1. Lorson BA, Melgar-Quinonez HR, Taylor CA. Correlates of fruit and vegetable intakes in US children. J Am Diet Assoc. 2009;109(3):474-478.

The implication? That Flintstones vitamins somehow fill this nutritional void. But let's look a little closer at some of these presumably healthy ingredients....

ASPARTAME
Aspartame is a synthetic combination of the amino acids aspartic acid and l-phenylalanine, and is known to convert into highly toxic methanol and formaldehyde in the body. Aspartame has been linked to over 40 adverse health effects in the biomedical literature, and has been shown to exhibit both neurotoxicity and carcinogenicity [1] What business does a chemical like this have doing in a children's vitamin, especially when non-toxic, non-synthetic non-nutritive sweeteners like stevia already exist?

CUPRIC OXIDE
Next, let's look closer at Cupric Oxide, 2mg of which is included in each serving of Flinstone's Complete chewable vitamins as a presumably 'nutritional' source of 'copper,' supplying "100% of the Daily Value (Ages 4+), according to Flintstones Vitamins Web site's Nutritional Info.[2]

But what is Cupric Oxide? A nutrient or a chemical?

According to the European Union's Dangerous Substance Directive, one of the main EU laws concerning chemical safety, Cupric Oxide is listed as a Hazardous substance, classified as both "Harmful (XN)" and "Dangerous for the environment" (N). Consider that it has industrial applications as a pigment in ceramics, and as a chemical in the production of rayon fabric and dry cell batteries. In may be technically correct to call it a mineral, but should it be listed as a nutrient in a children's vitamin? We think not.

Top US Brand of Children's Vitamins Contain Aspartame, GMO's, & Other Hazardous Chemicals

COAL TAR ARTIFICIAL COLORING AGENTS
A well-known side effect of using synthetic dyes is attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder. For direct access to study abstracts on this topic view our Food Coloring research page. There is also indication that the neurotoxicity of artificial food coloring agents increase when combined with aspartame,[3] making the combination of ingredients in Flintstones even more concerning.

ZINC OXIDE
Each serving of Flinstones Complete Chewable vitamins contain 12 mg of zinc oxide, which the manufacturer claims delivers 75% of the Daily Value to children 2 & 3 years of age. Widely used as a sun protection factor (SPF) in sunscreens, The EU's Dangerous Substance Directive classifies it as an environmental Hazard, "Dangerous for the environment (N)." How it can be dangerous to the environment, but not for humans ingesting it, escapes me. One thing is for sure, if one is to ingest supplemental zinc, or market it for use by children, it makes much more sense using a form that is organically bound (i.e. 'chelated') to an amino acid like glycine, as it will be more bioavailable and less toxic.

SORBITOL
Sorbitol is a synthetic sugar substitute which is classified as a sugar alcohol. It can be argued that it has no place in the human diet, much less in a child's. The ingestion of higher amounts have been linked to gastrointestinal disturbances from abdominal pain to more serious conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome.[4]

FERROUS FUMARATE
The one clear warning on the Flinstone's Web site concerns this chemical. While it is impossible to die from consuming iron from food, e.g. spinach, ferrous fumarate is an industrial mineral and not found in nature as food. In fact, ferrous fumarate is so toxic that accidental overdose of products containing this form is "a leading cause of fatal poisoning in children under 6." The manufacturer further warns:
Keep this product out of reach of children. In case of accidental overdose, call a doctor or poison control center immediately.

HYDROGENATED SOYBEAN OIL
Finding hydrogenated oil in anything marketed to children is absolutely unacceptable. These semi-synthetic fatty acids incorporate into our tissues and have been linked to over a dozen adverse health effects, from coronary artery disease to cancer, violent behavior to fatty liver disease.[5]

GMO CORN STARCH
While it can be argued that the amount of GMO corn starch in this product is negligible, even irrelevant, we disagree. It is important to hold accountable brands that refuse to label their products honestly, especially when they contain ingredients that have been produced through genetic modification. The 'vitamin C' listed as ascorbic acid in Flintstones is likely also produced from GMO corn. Let's remember that Bayer's Ag-biotech division, Bayer CropScience, poured $381,600 of cash into defeating the proposition 37 GMO labeling bill in California. Parents have a right to protect their children against the well-known dangers of genetically modified foods and the agrichemicals that contaminate them, don't they? GMO corn starch is GMO, plain and simple. We'd appreciate it if Bayer would label their "vitamins" accordingly.

In summary, Bayer's Flintstone's vitamin brand is far from a natural product, and the consumer should be aware of the unintended, adverse health effects that may occur as a result of using it.

Pineapple

• Pineapple is known to be very effective in curing constipation and irregular bowel movements. This is because; it is rich in fiber, which makes bowel movements regular and efficient.

• For any kind of morning sickness, motion sickness, or nausea, drink pineapple juice. It works effectively in getting rid of nausea and vomiting sensations.

• It has virtually no fat and cholesterol and is loaded with essential nutrients and vitamins that are needed by the body for overall growth and development.

• The juice from fresh pineapple can be used to relieve bronchitis, diphtheria, and chest congestion. Not only does it have enough amounts of Vitamin C, but it also contains an enzyme called bromelain (an extract from the stem of pineapples), which is known to dissolve and loosen up mucus. It is the bromelain present in pineapple which helps in loosening the mucus.

• Bromelain has anti-inflammatory properties, which benefits the internal organs, accelerates the recovery from internal injuries, and reduces swelling. Pineapple also reduces 'ulcerative colitis'.

• Pineapple is very effective in fighting viruses, which spreads cold and cough. If you are infected with the ailment, intake of fresh pineapple juice can help you recover quickly.

• Pineapple is effective in getting rid of intestinal worms and also keeps the intestines and kidneys clean. It is effective in flushing out the toxins from the body, thus making the body metabolism strong.

• Pineapples are very rich in manganese; manganese is required for the growth of healthy bones and tissues.

• Pineapples are rich in Vitamin C and thus, help prevent gum disease and also prevent the formation of plaque, consequently keeping the teeth healthy.

• Pineapple discourages blood clot development, which makes it a valuable diet for frequent fliers and those who are at a risk of forming blood clots in their bodies.

• Effective in preventing macular degeneration, pineapple reduces the risk of getting affected by this disease. Macular degeneration causes vision loss in adults, mainly due to the damage of retina when the reading, doing daily chores, and recognizing faces become difficult.

• Regular intake of pineapple reduces the risk of hypertension as it contains sodium and potassium. Including potassium and sodium in the diet lowers the blood pressure in the body.

• Consumption of pineapple improves the elasticity of the skin apart from improving skin hydration and removing dead and damaged cells.

HEALTH NEWS ~ AUGUST

I can hardly believe summer is almost gone and fall is around the corner. Here is a great recipe to try while summer is still here and all the fresh fruit is available.

Fruit Salad

One recipe Whipped Topping, (See April’s Newsletter)
Fresh fruit of choice, but here are some ideas:

Apples
Bananas
Blueberries
Cantaloupe
Grapes
Honeydew
Kiwi
Mango
Oranges
Papaya
Pineapple
Raspberries
Strawberries

Cut up fruit and place in bowl. Add whipped topping and mix with a big spoon and chill. Serve with toast, rice cakes, or popcorn and enjoy!

It would be well for us to do less cooking and to eat more fruit in its natural state. Let us teach the people to eat freely of the fresh grapes, apples, peaches, pears, berries, and all other kinds of fruit that can be obtained. 7T 134

Fruit is so good for us, we need to be sure to eat it every day and a variety. Did you know that?

The pomegranate is referred to in 11 Old Testament books. This shows the importance of this fruit.

In Exodus 28:33 we read that the hem of the high priest’s robe was embroidered with pomegranates. Pomegranates were used to ornament the pillars in King Solomon’s Temple (1 Kings 7:20). The spies who went to explore the land of Canaan returned with a single cluster of grapes so large that two men had to carry it on a pole. They also had some pomegranates and figs to prove that the land was fertile (Num. 13:23). Yes, the pomegranates grew in abundance in Canaan. So the pomegranate is a special fruit!

KIWI: Tiny but mighty. This is a good source of potassium, magnesium, vitamin E & fiber. Its vitamin C content is twice that of an orange.

APPLE: An apple a day keeps the doctor away? Although an apple has a low vitamin C content, it has antioxidants & flavonoids which enhances the activity of vitamin C thereby helping to lower the risks of colon cancer, heart attack & stroke.

STRAWBERRY: Protective Fruit. Strawberries have the highest total antioxidant power among major fruits & protect the body from cancer-causing, blood vessel-clogging free radicals.

ORANGE: Sweetest medicine. Eating 2-4 oranges a day may help keep colds away, lower cholesterol, prevent & dissolve kidney stones as well as lessens the risk of colon cancer.

WATERMELON: Coolest thirst quencher...Composed of 92% water; it is also packed with a giant dose of glutathione, which helps boost our immune system. They are also a key source of lycopene - the cancer fighting oxidant. Other nutrients found in watermelon are vitamin C & Potassium.

GUAVA & PAPAYA: Top awards for vitamin C. They are the clear winners for their high vitamin C content. Guava is also rich in fiber, which helps prevent constipation. Papaya is rich in carotene; this is good for your eyes.

BANANAS: Contain three natural sugars - sucrose, fructose, and glucose combined with fiber. A banana gives an instant sustained and substantial boost of energy.

Research has proven that just two bananas provide enough energy for a strenuous 90 minute workout. No wonder the banana is the number one fruit with the world's leading athletes.

But energy isn't the only way a banana can help us keep fit. It can also help overcome or prevent a substantial n umber of illnesses and conditions, making it a must to add to our daily diet.

A banana really is a natural remedy for many ills. When you compare it to an apple, it has four times the protein, twice the carbohydrate, three times the phosphorus, five times the vitamin A and iron, and twice the other vitamins and minerals. It is also rich in potassium and is one of the best value foods around; so maybe its time to change that well-known phrase so that we say, "A banana a day keeps the doctor away!"

PS: Bananas must be the reason monkeys are so happy all the time! :)

I will add one here; want a quick shine on our shoes?? Take the INSIDE of the banana skin, and rub directly on the shoe...polish with dry cloth. Amazing fruit!

In the New York Times science section (July 17, 2007, page 6) it says: "People who choose organic fruits and vegetables to avoid pesticides and other chemicals may have another reason to buy organic. A new study finds that organically grown tomatoes have higher levels of flavonoids, which may protect against cardiovascular disease."

"I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service." Romans 12:1

Let’s present our bodies a living sacrifice by eating to the glory of God. We need to have clear minds to hear the Holy Spirit talking to us and to have healthy bodies to do His will and get the work done so we can go home to heaven!

Cheese

Cheese is made from milk, and milk almost always contains pus. You may comfort yourself by thinking that the pus is pasteurized, and certainly, pasteurization will prevent you from becoming ill, but you’re still eating pus. Look at it like this: you could stick a dog turd in an autoclave and render it biologically harmless with significant pressure and heat. Yet, we’re willing to wager that you’d not be anxious to eat it unless you have some very strange proclivities indeed.
Forget about being vegan – most cheeses aren't even vegetarian. Rennet, a stomach enzyme common to most mammals, is used to make cheese by “digesting” it, leaving behind a solid and a liquid. Rennet is often harvested from the stomachs of cattle in slaughterhouses, and used directly in cheese. Though there are vegetarian rennet synthesized by other means, it is difficult to know which cheeses use vegetarian rennet and which cheeses use the stuff scraped out of the stomachs of slaughtered animals. Yum! Cow stomach excretions obviously go great with pus!

In order for you to have your beloved cheese, someone had to produce the milk to make the cheese, and we don’t mean a dairy farmer. The someone in this case is a nameless dairy cow, identified only by a number and probably a radio frequency identification tag in her ear that helps the slave owner farmer track her productivity so he can send her to slaughter once she under produces.

In the larger dairy operations, this cow may never go outside, and she will repeatedly give birth to calves who will be stolen from her almost immediately after they are born. She will live a short and miserable life, and end up as hamburger on the plate of some fast food consumer, all because you could not find the guts up to stop eating cheese or drinking milk. And you say you care about animals?

Beyond being a disaster for cows, cheese is a disaster for you. A cup of diced cheddar has a whopping 532 calories, 385 of which come from fat. That includes 28 grams of saturated fat, which is 139% of amount recommended for total daily consumption by the United States government. And really, do you think those figures haven’t already been manipulated by decades of dairy and meat industry intervention in the government?

To all that fat, you can add 139 milligrams of cholesterol and 820 mg of sodium. For comparison, if you decided to reach for a cup of chopped carrots instead, you’d be taking in fewer than a tenth of the total calories (52 calories for the whole cup) and less than 1 percent of the fat (3 calories versus 385 calories) than if you ate the cheese.

We also have divine counsel telling us not to eat cheese and here is the quote: "Cheese is still more objectionable, it is wholly unfit for food."  MH 302

Dates

For many years I didn't eat dates because I thought I didn't like them. I tasted them as a child and didn't like them and that stuck with me for years. Then one day about 2 years ago I decided to try a date as we were trying to get away from unrefined sugars and so I tasted a date and to my surprise I absolutely loved them!!! Now, I can eat them every day and sometimes I do! :) If you eat them with plain popped popcorn they make it taste like caramel corn. If you eat them with an apple, it makes the apple taste like a caramel apple. I use them as my main sweetener. They are so good for you too.

Here is some information I picked up on dates on the web.....

Dates are my favorite fruit to eat as a desert, add to my smoothies and fruit dishes that I make. There are many varieties of date palm cultivated. ‘Amir Hajj’, ‘Saidy’, 'Khadrawy' and 'Medjool' is some of the important varieties that are popular for their superior quality. My favorite is the Medjool which is the sweetest and most delicious.

Dates area wonderfully delicious and are one of the most popular fruits packed with an impressive list of essential nutrients, vitamins, and minerals. Dates compose are easily digestible flesh and simple sugars like fructose and dextrose. Dates replenish energy and revitalize the body instantly. For these qualities, they are used to break the fast during Ramadan month since ancient times.

Dares are rich in dietary fiber, which prevents LDL cholesterol absorption in the gut. Additionally, the fiber works as a bulk laxative protecting the colon mucous membrane by decreasing exposure time and as well as binding to cancer-causing chemicals in the colon.

Dates contain health benefiting flavonoid polyphenolic antioxidants known as tannins. Tannins are known to possess anti-infective, anti-inflammatory, and anti-hemorrhagic (prevent easy bleeding tendencies) properties. They are moderate sources of vitamin-A which is known to have antioxidant properties and essential for vision. Additionally, it is also required maintaining healthy mucus membranes and skin. Consumption of natural fruits rich in vitamin A is known to help to protect from lung and oral cavity cancers. Dates are an excellent source of iron and potassium helping to control the heart rate and blood pressure as well as protecting our body against stroke and coronary hear disease.

Dates are also rich in minerals like calcium, manganese, copper, and magnesium. Calcium is an important mineral that is an essential constituent of bone and teeth, and required by the body for muscle contraction, blood clotting, and nerve impulse conduction. Manganese is used by the body as a co-factor for the antioxidant enzyme. Copper is required for the production of red blood cells. Magnesium is essential for bone growth.

Further, dates have adequate levels of B-complex group of vitamins as well as vitamin K. It contains very good amounts of vitamin B-6, niacin, pantothenic acid, and riboflavin. These vitamins are acting as cofactors that help our body metabolize carbohydrates, protein, and fats. Vitamin K is essential for many coagulant factors in the blood as well as in bone metabolism.

If I am asked what to use as a sweetener; I always recommend dates.

Cucumbers

Spice up your 8 glasses per day of water with a slice or two of cucumber. It's wonderfully refreshing, but there are amazing benefits to cucumber as well. Cucumbers are cooler than you think ...

1. Fat busting: Do you ever wonder why women put cucumbers on their eyes to relieve puffiness? The photochemical in cucumbers makes the collagen in your skin tighten, thus the lack of puffiness. Did you know that you can rub a cucumber on a problematic spot of cellulite anywhere on your body to lessen the visibility of it? Did you also know that it has the same effect on wrinkles? Wow, it makes purchasing those fifty dollar creams seem a little silly, doesn’t it? You can also rub a little bit under your kiddo’s eyes after a long bout of crying to avoid that puffy ‘I cried for an hour straight’ look.

2. Defogger: Do you get annoyed when you get out of the shower and you have to fight the fog on the mirror? Who has time for that when the kids will be awake at any moment? Try rubbing a slice of cucumber on the mirror before you hop in and not only will you get a fog-free mirror, but you’ll have a nice smell that will boost your mood.

3. Headaches: If you suffer from headaches from chasing your babies all day (or pets or your husband), or had a little too much wine with dinner and want to avoid a hangover, eat half of a cucumber before bed. Cucumbers are high in B vitamins, sugar, and electrolytes, and they replenish the nutrients missing in your body to help you avoid a hang over or to beat that headache that’s been threatening to take over.

4. WD-40 replacement: Did you know you can get rid of a squeak by rubbing a cucumber on the hinge? Wow, now you don’t have to tear your garage apart looking for that little can with the red straw, and the baby won’t wake up when you slowly open the nursery door to check on him.

5. Crayon on the walls: Take an unpeeled cucumber and rub the crayon off of the walls in the event that your kiddo left you some art. You can also use this technique to erase a pen mistake.

6. Halitosis killer: Take a slice of cucumber and put it on the roof of your mouth. Hold it there with your tongue for 30 seconds. The photochemical that you love for cellulite and puff reduction will also kill the bacteria that is causing your bad breath.

7. Tarnish remover: If you’re finding tarnish on your stainless steel kitchen faucets and appliances? Rub it off with a cucumber slice. Not only will it remove years of tarnish, it will leave it streak free and your hands will thank you, and your kids won’t be put at risk from a dangerous chemical.

8. Energy booster: If you’re feeling tired in the afternoon, don’t give Starbucks your five bucks. Instead, grab a cucumber. There are just enough carbohydrates and B vitamins to give you a longer-lasting and healthier boost of energy than soda, coffee, or those health hazard energy drinks.

9. Munchy madness: Did you know that European trappers ate cucumbers for energy and to keep from starving to death? If those big burly manly men can eat a cucumber to keep from starving, you can eat one as a healthy choice when the munchies hit. Slice some up and take them in a small plastic container to the movies if your theater doesn’t offer healthy alternatives to munching on butter soaked popcorn.

10. Frugal facial: Slice up a cucumber and boil it in a pot of water. The chemicals inside of the cucumber will mix with the steam. Remove the pot from heat and lean over it, letting the steam hit you. Your skin will be more radiant and healthy, and you will feel relaxed and rejuvenated.

11. Shoe polish: Cut a slice off of your cucumber and rub it on your shoe. It will not only shine it up, but it will repel water.

12. Pest control: Put three or four slices of cucumber in a small pie tin and place them in your garden. The chemicals in the cucumber have a reaction that pests hate. You won’t smell it, but it will drive them from your garden all year long. Replace them periodically.

13. Sunburn: Sometimes sun block doesn’t always protect your little ones from sunburn. If you have burnt little kiddos you don’t have any aloe, rub some cucumber on them. Many doctors even use cucumber to treat patients with irritated skin and sunburns.

14. Blood pressure: Cucumber has been long used to treat high blood pressure. If you have it, add cucumbers to your daily diet. There is also ongoing research into the use of cucumbers for lowering cholesterol.

15. Constipation remedy: The seeds of a cucumber are a diuretic. If you’re constipated, try eating a cucumber. If you suffer from chronic constipation, add cucumber to your daily diet.
