HEALTH NEWS ~ JANUARY

Happy New Year everyone! It’s hard to believe another year is gone and it’s already 2015!

Now that we have colder weather; here is a great recipe to warm you up.

Cheesy Broccoli Soup

3½ c. water
1 c. cashews
1 T. onion powder
½ t. garlic powder
½ t. dill weed
⅓ c. fresh red pepper
2 t. salt or to taste
4 c. broccoli florets or chopped broccoli

Blend all EXCEPT broccoli together until smooth and creamy. Pour into large pot and add the broccoli. Heat and serve.

Variation:  If you want to serve over baked potato thicken with cornstarch. If you prefer, you may use cauliflower instead of broccoli.

“Cheese is still more objectionable, it is wholly unfit for food.” MH 302

Cheese needs to be cured or fermented to be eaten. Protein, fat and carbohydrate are the major nutrients affected during the curing process. The products used during the fermentation or curing of cheese are toxic
and irritating.

A summary of the objectionable features of hard or ripened cheeses includes the following:

1. The putrefactive process results in the production of amines, ammonia, irritation fatty acids.  The carbohydrate is converted to lactic acid.  These are all waste products which cause irritation to nerves and gastro-intestinal tract.

2. Migraine headaches can be caused by tyramine, one of the toxic amines produced in cheese.

3. Certain of the amines can interact with the nitrates present in the stomach to form nitro-samine, a cancer producing agent.

4. An intolerance to lactose, the chief carbohydrate of cheese and milk, is probably the most common food sensitivity in America.

5. Rennet is used in the curdling of milk for cheese making. Rennet is obtained from the whole stomach lining of calves, lambs, goats, or PIGS.

Our counsel has been a great blessing to us for many years. There has been much suffering avoided because we have this counsel on cheese. “Cheese should never be introduced into the stomach." CD 368

Did you know it takes 10 lbs. of milk to make ONE lb. of cheese? Wow how concentrated is that? No wonder people have health problems when eating cheese.

Since cottage cheese and cream cheese are not “ripened” it would seem reasonable that these products could safely be used. They are safe, however ONLY if free from disease –producing organisms, heavy metals, detergents, antibiotics, cancer viruses, and other undesirable substances.  In this day of expanding diseases in animals, and expanding processes of manufacture and marketing it is unlikely that any dairy products can be considered safe. Furthermore, rennet, as mentioned in item 5 above, is sometimes used in the production of these cheeses to make a firmer coagulum. Certainly one may object to the use of pigs’ stomach lining for this purpose!

“The effect of cheese is deleterious.”  TSDF 14.

I looked deleterious up in the dictionary and it means injurious to health, harmful, or destructive. Wow this is a powerful quote!

The wise man Solomon wrote these powerful words in Proverbs 23: 2-3... And put a knife to thy throat, if thou be a man given to appetite. Be not desirous of his dainties: for they are deceitful meat.

Boy is he ever right! The Bible is full of wise counsel, and even eating and drinking receive proper attention.

"If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are."   1 Cor 3:17

In 1893, an American physician, John Kellogg, identified the allergic cause and effect reactions which resulted from cheese consumption. Ellen G. White related a fascinating anecdote of this vegetarian doctor who invented Kellogg's Corn Flakes in her 1893 letter to a friend:

“It was decided that at a certain camp meeting, cheese should not be sold to those on the ground; but on coming to the ground, Dr. Kellogg found to his surprise that a large quantity of cheese had been purchased for sale at the grocery. He and some others objected to this, but those in charge of the grocery said that the cheese had been bought with the consent of Brother ___, and that they could not afford to lose the money invested in it. Upon this, Dr. Kellogg asked the price of the cheese, and bought the whole of it from them. He had traced the matter from cause to effect, and knew that some foods generally thought to be wholesome, were very injurious.” 12MR 342

"Nearly 70 percent of children who consume a typical American diet have fatty deposits in their coronary arteries - the earliest sign of coronary heart disease by the age of twelve."  ~ Charles Attwood, M.D.

"At least 50% of all children in the United States are allergic to cow's milk, many undiagnosed. Dairy products are the leading cause of food allergy, often revealed by diarrhea, constipation, and fatigue. Many cases of asthma and sinus infections are reported to be relieved and even eliminated by cutting out dairy." Natural Health, July, 1994, - Nathaniel Mead, MD

As you can see cheese is not good for you and we should not be eating it. Even some doctors recognize this as you can see from the above quotes. Yes, they are talking about milk, but remember I said above, it takes 10 lbs. of milk to make just ONE pound of cheese.

God has given us so many other wonderful, healthy things to eat that I don’t even miss cheese anymore.

God never takes away anything good for us. He created plenty of fruits, nuts, grains and vegetables for us to eat. We can find all the nutrients we need in them to have healthy bodies.

“The more nearly we come into harmony with God's original plan, the more favorable will be our position to secure health of body, and mind, and soul.” MH 365

As you can see, we have a lot of information to help us to know how bad eating cheese is. May God lead and guide you to make better and healthier choices!
