HEALING THE SICK: Pointing Them To Jesus As The Only True Healer And Great Physician

Q: WHAT IS HEALTH?

A: According to the WHO (World Health Organization):

“Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease

or infirmity. https://www.who.int/about/mission/en/

Q: WHAT DID JESUS DO IN HIS DAY WHEN PEOPLE WERE NOT IN HEALTH?

Matthew 4:23-24

CHRIST IS OUR EXAMPLE ON HOW TO HEAL

• 1 Corinthians 10:11 – All things written in the Bible and those things Jesus did our written for us in the last days.
• Matthew 10:8 – We are commissioned to heal the sick.

“We have come to a time when every member of the church should take hold of medical missionary work. The world is a lazar house filled with victims of both physical and spiritual disease. Everywhere people are perishing for lack of a knowledge of the truths that have been committed to us. The members of the church are in need of an awakening, that they may realize their responsibility to impart these truths. Those who have been enlightened by the truth are to be light bearers to the world. To hide our light at this time is to make a terrible mistake. The message to God’s people today is: “Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee.” {7T 62.1}

WHAT IS A MAIN WAY HE HEALED THE PEOPLE?

• Matthew 8:8,13,16 – Only speak the word and he shall be healed
• Psalms 107:20 – He sent His word and healed them

WHO IS THE WORD?

Revelation 19:13 – Jesus is the Word

Note: When we work with people, we need to point them to Jesus who loves and cares for them and wants to heal all their maladies, whatever they may be

SOMETHING VERY IMPORTANT THAT WE NEED TO KEEP IN MIND WHEN WORKING WITH THE SICK:

“…Sickness of the mind prevails everywhere. Nine tenths of the diseases from which men suffer have their foundation here. Perhaps some living home trouble is, like a canker, eating to the very soul and weakening the life forces. Remorse for sin sometimes undermines the constitution and unbalances the mind…” {5T 443.4}

WHAT WE NEED TO TEACH PEOPLE:

• Isaiah 26:3 – “Thou wilt keep [him] in perfect peace, [whose] mind [is] stayed [on thee] (the Word): because he trusteth in thee.”
• Matthew 4:4

GIVE THEM EXCEEDING GREAT AND PRECIOUS BIBLE PROMISES (2 Peter 1:4)

1. 1 Peter 5:7 – He careth for you.
2. Psalms 50:15 – Call upon Him in the Day of Trouble and He will deliver you. (Matthew 11:28-30)
3. John 6:37 – Anyone that goeth to Jesus will not be cast out.
4. 1 John 1:9 – If we confess our sins, He will forgive all our sins, no matter what they are.
5. Nehemiah 9:17 – He is ready to pardon.

“In nine cases out of ten the knowledge of a sin-pardoning Saviour would make them better both in mind and body.”  —Testimonies for the Church 5:448. {HL 234.5 }

Many carry a violated conscience, and can be reached only by the principles of bible religion.”  Testimonies for the Church 3:168. {HL 235.1}

“A sore, sick heart, a discouraged mind, needs mild treatment; and it is through tender sympathy that this class of minds can be healed…point them to the all-healing physician. If their minds can be directed to the Burden-Bearer, and they can have faith that he will have an interest in them, the cure of their diseased bodies and minds will be sure.”  —Testimonies for the Church 3:184. {HL 235.2}

WE HAVE TO LEAD ALL THESE PEOPLE TO JESUS:

• John 12:32

FOR THOSE CONTEMPLATING SUICIDE

“You say you are tempted to cut the brittle thread of life (she’s talking to someone contemplating suicide); but if you do, then your case is hopeless, for you add the sin of murder to all your other sins. But if you come just as you are, helpless and sin-polluted, and cast yourself at the foot of the cross, poor, miserable, blind, and naked, there is a Saviour to lift you up…if you will now look unto Jesus, you will live.”   {TSB 143.4}
