The Importance of Medical Missionary Work - Workers Needed on a Grand Scale

THE IMPORTANCE OF THIS WORK:
“I wish to tell you that soon there will be no work done in ministerial lines but Medical Missionary work...” {CH 533.3}

“...The union that should exist between the Medical Missionary Work and the ministry is clearly set forth in the fifty-eighth chapter of Isaiah. There is wisdom for those who will engage in the work as here presented.”  {6T 289.4}

The medical missionary work ought always to have existed in the work of reform...”  (WM 123.1)

The medical missionary work must be recognized...” {MM 238.3}

Healing the sick is part of the gospel.”  {MM 237.6}

“The Medical Missionary work should be a part of the work of every church in our land...”  {CH 514.1}

“Our…churches may reach a higher, holier standard...the Lord is calling for a revival of the principles of health reform. Seventh-day Adventists have a special work to do...”  {CD 76.1}

“I have been instructed that we are not to delay to do the work that needs to be done in health reform lines. Through this work we are to reach the souls in the highways and the byways.” {CD 76.3}

God’s blessing will rest upon every effort made to awaken an interest in health reform; for it is needed everywhere.
There must be a revival on this subject; for God purposes to accomplish much through this agency...” {MM 259.3}

Medical missionary work should have its representatives in every place in connection with the establishment of our churches.”  MS. 88, 1902. {MM 322.1}

There is a great work to be done. Are you doing all you can to help? God has given us a commission which angels might envy. Medical missionary work is to be done. Thousands upon thousands of human beings are perishing...all heaven is looking on with intense interest to see what stamp medical missionary work will assume...”  (MM 131.2}

Medical Missionary work is a sacred thing of God's own devising...”  {MM 131.3}

“In the medical missionary work Jesus is to behold the travail of his soul. Human beings are to be snatched as brands from the burning.” {MM 131.5}

WHO SHOULD BE A PART OF THIS WORK?
“Rally workers who possess true missionary zeal, and let them go forth to diffuse light and knowledge far and near. Let them take the living principles of health reform into the communities...”  (MM 322.3}

“...the usefulness of those who are preparing for the ministry would be greatly increased if they would become intelligent on the great and important subject of health reform.”  {6T 291.3}

God wants the ministers and the church members to take a decided, active interest in the medical missionary work.”  {WM 121.1} {WM 121.1}

“...the work being done in medical missionary lines is a fulfillment of the scripture...this is a work that the churches in every locality, north and south and east and west, should do.”  {WM 122.2-.3}

“Intelligent, self-sacrificing men (and women) are now needed--men who realize the solemnity and importance of God's work...the medical missionary work given us to do means something to every one of us.
It is a work of soul saving; it is the proclamation of the gospel message.” {CH 320.3}

We have come to a time when EVERY MEMBER of the church should take hold of medical missionary work. The world is a lazar house filled with victims of both physical and spiritual disease. Everywhere people are perishing for lack of a knowledge of the truths that have been committed to us. The members of the church are in need of an awakening, that they may realize their responsibility to impart these truths. Those who have been enlightened by the truth are to be light bearers to the world. To hide our light at this time is a terrible mistake. The message to God's people today is: “Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee.”  {7T 62.1}

“Get the young men and women in the churches to work. Combine medical missionary work with the proclamation of the third angel's message. Make regular, organized efforts to lift the church members out of the dead level in which they have been for years...see if the breath of life will not then come into our churches.”   6T 267. {MM 320.1}

SPECIAL TRAINING NEEDED TO DO THIS WORK:
“Pastors and teachers are to work intelligently in their lines, instructing church members how to work in medical missionary lines...”  {WM 123.2}

There is a great work to be done in bringing the principles of health reform to the notice of the people. Public meetings should be held to introduce the subject, and schools should be held in which those who are interested can be told more particularly...”  {PC 4.4}

The medical missionary work must be recognized.
Those who go forth to engage in the work of the ministry
must be intelligent upon the subject of health reform...” {MM 238.3}

“Many would be willing to work if they were taught how to begin. They need to be instructed and encouraged. EVERY CHURCH SHOULD BE A TRAINING SCHOOL FOR CHRISTIAN WORKERS. Its members should be taught how to give Bible readings, how to conduct and teach Sabbath-school classes, how best help the poor and care for the sick...there should not only be teaching, but actual work under experienced workers...” {MH 149.2} {ChS 59.3}

“There should be connected with our missions training schools for those who are about to enter the field as laborers. They should feel that they must become as apprentices to learn the trade of laboring...they should never cease to become learners, but should ever continue to dig for truth and for the best ways of working, as they would dig for buried gold.” {RH, June 14, 1887 par. 5}

“...Instruction should be given upon health and temperance...EDUCATE, EDUCATE, EDUCATE, is the message that has been impressed upon me.”  {CH 449.2}

“The study of surgery and other medical science receives much attention in the world, but the true science of medical missionary work...will find its rightful place when as a people who have had great light, Seventh-day Adventists awaken to their responsibilities and improve their opportunities.”  {Ev 518.1}

“It is by education and practice that persons are to be qualified to meet any emergency which may arise; and...that he may obtain an experience that will fit him to bear responsibility.”  9T 221. {ChS 59.2}

Greater efforts should be put forth to educate the people
in the principles of HEALTH REFORM.”  --Testimonies, vol. 9, p. 161. {ChS 59.4}

“There should be a more clear, definite understanding of what medical missionary work comprehends.”
{MM 23.2}

“Our churches, large and small, are not to be treated in such a way that they will be helplessly dependent upon ministerial aid. The members are to be so established in the faith that they will have an intelligent knowledge of medical missionary work.”  (MM 315.4)

Health reform is to be taught and practiced by our peopleSeventh-day Adventists have a special work to do...”  {CD 76.1}

IN CONCLUSION:
“We now ask those who shall be chosen as presidents of our conferences (or in our case, the leaders and teachers of our churches)...recognize the medical missionary work as God's helping hand. As His appointed agency it is to have room and encouragement. Medical missionaries are to have as much encouragement as any accredited evangelist. PRAY with these workers. COUNCIL with them if they need counsel. Do not dampen their zeal and energy. Be sure by your own consecration and devotion to KEEP A HIGH STANDARD before them. Laborers are greatly needed in the lord's vineyard, and not a word of discouragement should be spoken to those who consecrate themselves to the work.”  --MS. 33, 1901. {MM 240.3}

“Let those who are teachers and leaders in our cause take their STAND FIRMLY ON BIBLE GROUND in regard to health reform...”  {ChL 75.1}
