- *Clarified charcoal water in eye dropper bottle -- (mix 1 tsp activated charcoal in 1 pint of distilled water and allow to settle for 24 hours. Gently siphon off the water at the top of jar without disturbing the solid particles which have settled to the bottom.) A couple drops every hour to eyes infected with “pink eye” brings great relief and combined with warm moist packs to the eyes for 2-3 days may even eliminate the infection.
- *Swimmer’s Ear Drops in eye dropper bottle— (mix white vinegar and alcohol 50:50; instill 3-4 drops to each ear after swimming to prevent and/or treat otitis externa. Do NOT use if patient has ear tubes or otitis media infection!)
- *Alum powder—a pinch of this placed on a canker sore in the mouth works wonders, but do not swallow!!!
- *Psyllium husk (psyllium husk is the husk of the seeds of the plantain plant—also known as unflavored Metamucil, can be found in pharmacy) (mix 1 part psyllium husk to 2 parts activated charcoal in Ziploc bag, close and mix powders well, add water to thick paste consistency, pat out to ¼” thickness, may cut to size, makes excellent charcoal poultice that can be placed directly on skin. Can be kept in Ziploc and frozen for later use.)
- *Antibiotic Salve— use herbal if available, for wound care
- *B&W ointment— (B&W stands for Burns & Wounds) This ointment is part of a burn treatment protocol developed by an Amish man named John W. Keim. It is “a soothing salve used as an aid for cuts, burns, sunburns, bruises and tissue injuries.” {Ingredients: Honey, Lanolin, Olive Oil, Wheat Germ oil, Marshmallow root, Aloe Vera Gel, Wormwood, Comfrey Root, White Oak Bark, Lobelia Inflata, Vegetable Glycerin, Bees Wax, Myrrh.} I personally know of two testimonials of people with severe burns who have had remarkably quick relief from pain and amazing recoveries from their injuries by using this protocol and salve. Amish laymen do give workshops in their use of this remedy and their burn protocol, and although I have not yet been able to attend one I hope to soon. REFERENCE BOOK(S) TO CARRY
- Study the Medical Missionary Training lecture notes, your own notes, the reading assignments and begin a small note book (or collection of 4x6 index cards with hole punched in one corner and all attached by a metal ring) Make notes of specific remedies, hydrotherapy treatments, etc., that you can carry with you and refer to.
- I also carry a smallish “herbal” in the front pocket of my bag, Ten Essential Herbs by Lalitha Thomas. This is NOT an SDA publication and does contain some secular views, but is an overall excellent reference. Please note, though, that I do place my new learning of remedies from the Spirit of Prophecy and from this class in higher regard than this book!
