Vinegar


Vinegar Kills Bacteria, Mold and Germs 

Vinegar is a mainstay of the old folk recipes for cleaning, and with good reason. The vim of the vinegar is that it kills bacteria, mold and germs.

Heinz company spokesperson Michael Mullen references numerous studies to show that a straight 5 percent solution of vinegar—the kind you can buy in the supermarket—kills 99 percent of bacteria, 82 percent of mold, and 80 percent of germs (viruses). He noted that Heinz can’t claim on their packaging that vinegar is a disinfectant since the company has not registered it as a pesticide with the Environmental Protection Agency. However, it seems to be common knowledge in the industry that vinegar is powerfully antibacterial. Even the CBS news show “48 Hours” had a special years ago with Heloise reporting on tests from The Good Housekeeping Institute that showed this.

Just like antibiotics, common disinfectants found in sponges and household sprays may contribute to drug resistant bacteria, according to researchers of drug resistance at Tufts New England Medical Center. Furthermore, research at the Government Accounting Office shows that many commercial disinfectants are ineffective to begin with, just like antibiotics.

Keep a clean spray bottle filled with straight 5 percent vinegar in your kitchen near your cutting board, and in your bathroom, and use them for cleaning. I often spray the vinegar on our cutting board before going to bed at night, and don’t even rinse, but let it set overnight. The smell of vinegar dissipates within a few hours. Straight vinegar is also great for cleaning the toilet rim. Just spray it on and wipe off.

Processed Meats Declared too Dangerous for Human Consumption



The World Cancer Research Fund recently completed a detailed review of 7,000 clinical studies covering links between diet and cancer. Upon conclusion it is evident that processed meats are dangerous for human consumption and consumers should stop buying and eating processed meats.

What are processed meats?
Processed meats include bacon, sausage, hot dogs, sandwich meat, packaged ham, pepperoni, salami and nearly all meat found in prepared frozen meals. Processed meats are usually manufactured with a carcinogenic (linked to promote and cause cancer) ingredient known as sodium nitrate. Sodium nitrate is primarily used as a colour fixer by meat companies to make the packaged meats look bright red and fresh. Monosodium glutamate is also added on a regular basis to enhance the savoury flavour.

Sodium Nitrate has been strongly linked to the formation of cancer-causing nitrasamines in the human body, leading to a sharp increase in the risk of cancer for those consuming them. A 2005 Hawaii University study found that eating processed meats increased the risk of pancreatic cancer by 67%, whilst another study found that it increased the risk of colorectal cancer by 50%. These are scary numbers for those consuming processed meats on a regular basis.

Monosodium glutamate (MSG) is a second dangerous chemical found in virtually all processed meat products. MSG is a dangerous excitotoxin linked to neurological disorders such as migraine headaches, Alzheimer’s disease, loss of appetite control, obesity and many other serious health conditions. Manufacturers use MSG to add an addictive savory flavor to dead-tasting processed meat products.

If it’s so dangerous to consume why are they allowed to sell it?

Unfortunately now days the food industry interests now dominate the actions of the government regulators. The USDA for example tried to ban sodium nitrate in the late 1970′s but were overridden by the meat industry insisting the chemical was ‘safe’. Today the food and agriculture corporations hold tremendous influence over the food industry and as a result consumers have little protection from dangerous chemicals intentionally added to foods, medicines and personal care products.

To avoid the dangers of processed meats:
•Always read ingredient labels
•Don’t buy anything made with sodium nitrate or MSG
•Avoid eating red meats served by restaurants, schools, hospitals, hotels or other institutions without asking for details
•Eat more fresh produce and only purchase fresh meats
•Avoid processed meats as much as possible
•Spread the word and tell others about the dangers of sodium nitrate and MSG

Vitamin C naturally found in fresh fruits and vegetables has been shown to help prevent the formation of cancer-causing nitrosamines, protecting you from the devastating health effects of processed meats. The best defense of course is to avoid process meats all together.

Kiwi Benefits

What’s in a Name?

For this fruit, quite a lot! The kiwi, originally called the Chinese gooseberry and later the “sunny peach”, was renamed the kiwi by New Zealand natives after their national bird. There are over 400 varieties of this fuzzy fruit, which grows off of vines on a trellis, much like grapes are cultivated.


Researchers exploring the potential positive features of the kiwi fruit have conducted several studies involving children and adults. A study in Italy indicated that children had less trouble with wheezing, shortness of breath, and coughing in the night when they consumed 5-7 servings of kiwi or citrus fruit a week. Asthma sufferers were found to derive the most benefit from the kiwi, even when eaten as few as 1-2 times a week. Adults can also benefit from eating the jewel-toned fruit! Another study demonstrated that eating 2-3 kiwi fruits a day can reduce the potential for blood clots and decrease triglycerides. Yet another study cited the kiwi’s ability to protect and repair the body from DNA damage, which could protect against cancer.

Can I eat the skin?

You can, but wash carefully to remove unwanted pesticides! Rub it a bit to minimize the fuzz. The skin actually provides more fiber to your sweet snack. If you’re not fond of the fuzzy exterior, simply “sloop” it out by slicing the kiwi in half horizontally and spooning out each end to enjoy.
 
What is a serving size?

A serving of kiwi fruit is ½ cup, or 1 medium-sized kiwi.

Got Cheese?


In 1970, the dairy industry produced 2.2 billion pounds of cheese. The population of the United
States was 203 million, which translates to 10.8 pounds of cheese consumed per person.

This year, the average American will eat over 34 pounds of cheese.

Constipated by Camembert? Sickened by Swiss? Phlegmed by Parmesan?

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) allows no more than 750 million pus cells in each liter of milk.

Since it takes 10 pounds of milk to make one pound of hard cheese, a pound of cheese can contain up to 7.5 billion pus cells. If your cheese is sliced so that there are 16 slices to a pound, that single slice of American or Swiss can contain over 468 million pus cells.

Eighty percent of milk protein consists of casein, a tenacious glue. Casein is the glue that is used to adhere a label to a bottle of beer. Try to scrape off one of those labels, and then consider the effects of casein in your body. Casein is the glue which holds together wood in furniture. Got horrible bowel movements?

Casein is a protein antigen and your body reacts to its presence by creating an antibody. That antibody- antigen reaction creates histamines. Anti-histamines (like Benadryl) are used to counter the effects of histamines. Mucus and phlegm are produced as a result of cheese consumption. Mucus congests internal body organs. Mucus creates phlegm.

In February of 1999, the Land of Lakes Company recalled nearly four hundred thousand cases of cheese products from supermarkets in every one of America's 50 states. Cheese makes a remarkable culture medium for bacteria, which stay alive for up to six months. This enormous recall was due to listeria. Eat listeria and it can take up to 45 days for you to get sick. Watermelon

Watermelons may relax blood vessels, improving circulation and even improving libido and erectile function, according to Medical News Today. Watermelon gives you a sweet treat with nutrients that benefit your body.

Watermelon Nutrients

Preedy's "Nutrition and Heart Disease: Causation and Prevention." High concentrations of lycopene in body fat are associated with lower rates of heart attack, especially in nonsmoking men, the authors report. Protecting your heart's health is crucial to maintaining good circulation. Oxidation of LDL refers to negative changes in LDL that may lead to heart disease. Consuming watermelon juice increases lycopene more than consuming tomato juice does. Watermelon and other foods rich in antioxidants help prevent LDL oxidation and the risk of atherosclerosis, hardening of the arteries that causes dangerous problems with circulation, the authors say.

Lower Blood Pressure

Watermelon extract reduced blood pressure in obese, middle-aged people who had prehypertension or hypertension, according to American researchers who reported their findings in the June 2012 issue of the "American Journal of Hypertension." The researchers concluded that the results suggest watermelon extract reduced arterial pressure, although further research is needed. Most of the study subjects were obese, post-menopausal women with mild high blood pressure.

Considerations

Even though watermelon is sweet; it has a low glycemic load. Glycemic load considers the amount of carbohydrate per serving, offering a more accurate gauge of a food's impact on blood sugar than the glycemic index alone does. Never attempt to self-diagnose or self-treat a health problem. Talk to your doctor about any medical concerns. Delaying appropriate treatment for a heart or circulation problem can have serious consequences.

Walking Lowers Breast Cancer Risk

Physical activity, particularly walking, "can substantially reduce a woman's risk of developing breast cancer," say two recently published scientific studies.

Accumulating scientific evidence has shown that exercise reduces risk for many types of cancer, but the mechanism involved has not been well understood.

 Detail on two decades of the exercise habits of more than 73,600 postmenopausal women age 50 to 73 was analyzed. Though a few women said they took vigorous exercise, most of the women walked at a pleasant pace of about 3 miles per hour.  The analysis showed that those women who walked an hour a day had 14 percent less risk of developing breast cancer than those who walked less than three hours per week.

 Those few who were the most active, sweating vigorously for up to 10 hours a week, had a 25 percent less risk of breast cancer.

 "Walking is an easy, inexpensive type of exercise," said one scientist. "Almost everyone can do it. And for this population of postmenopausal women, it provided a very significant reduction in the risk of breast cancer."

 In another study on younger women, women who were sedentary, but began a moderate aerobic exercise program for 16 weeks found that the ratios of estrogen metabolites in their urine shifted in a way that is believed to indicate a reduction in breast cancer risk. The women also lost body fat and gained muscle. Apparently by altering the ratio of estrogen metabolites and reducing body fat, the chemistry of a woman's body changes making it difficult for breast cancer to take hold. Exercise is not the only factor that reduces risk in breast cancer, but a significant one.

 "...physical activity, and especially walking," said one of the researchers, "are so simple and so accessible to most women. And statistically, they do seem to reduce breast cancer risk..."

 "Walking, in all cases where it is possible, is the best remedy for diseased bodies, because in this exercise all the organs of the body are brought into use... There is no exercise that can take the place of walking. By it the circulation of the blood is greatly improved." Testimonies for the Church, Vol. 3, page 78.
